Two men who also spent time at the flat told police that, in the days leading up to the murder, Whittle, of no fixed address, had been acting "oddly".
Stuart Rafferty QC, prosecuting, said the Crown believed drug user Whittle had taken a kitchen knife to the first floor flat on October 4 last year the day of the stabbing.
