According to Louisiana State Police, Wild Well Control has begun their staging and preparatory efforts in anticipation of capping the well. Troopers say this process is expected to last into the weekend.
Well control crews have arrived at the scene of a natural gas well blowout in Acadia Parish.

Louisiana State Police have announced that the Black Creek Drilling well near Mowata, La., "has been capped" shortly before noon Thursday and that "residents will be allowed back to their homes."
Crews began the staging process to begin capping the well. However, state troopers say the process is expected to be a prolonged event. No timetable has been set for when the well will be capped or when the evacuation will be lifted.

No timetable has been set to reopen the evacuated area. Troopers say those residents should anticipate being away from their homes for the next several days.
Black Creek Drilling has released a statement after residents are allowed to return to their homes. 40 Acadia Parish residents were evacuated from their home following a natural gas well blow out on February 25, 2014.
Officials say they still do not know how long it will take to close off the well. They do say, however, that this process is expected to be a prolonged event.
All residents are expected to meet at the fire station for further instruction. Trooper and LSP spokesperson Stephen Hammons said that "someone from DEQ will accompany them to their houses to check air quality."

This afternoon, we received word that the well had been secured to a level that has provided for the return of the displaced residents to their homes, opening of the roads, and all other routines returning to normal.

Representatives from Black Creek Drilling say they've met personally with all the evacuated residents to make sure they had somewhere to stay. As of Saturday evening, the well is no longer actively flowing, however the process of safely containing the well continues. Company officials tell us because of the potential risk to Wild Well Control personnel working on the well, it continues to be a very deliberate and methodical process.
